Photography > Interstellar Medium

February - May, 2013

The Interstellar Medium series predominantly showcase bright colors and unidentifiable forms. Using saturated, illuminated images of galaxies, a new space is created that gives an unrecognizable atmosphere. The titles are taken from poems and allude to the beauty and romantic aspect of outer space.
The unrecognizable subjects of these photos shroud them in mystery. Mysteriousness is one of space’s defining characteristics. Throughout history, outer space has drawn curious crowds from all fields of study and has been extensively studied. It is a prime example of how humanity is attracted to what we do not understand and how we try to come to understand it. Yet, even after years of study and each discovery, so much remains unexplained.
These photographs set out to draw the viewer’s attention to the mysterious of the unknown and invoke a sense of wonder, if only for a moment. They invite the viewer to reflect on the splendor of space to and look beyond what is familiar.
